The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s (ASI) Performance Standard recognizes the responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a chain of custody for CoC material, including ASI Aluminium, which is produced and processed through the value chain into the downstream sectors.

It means not only that the sites and their practices are certified, but that the physical metal they process also is certified, when obtained from ASI-certified sources.

The certification of the Łódź plant covers the site’s automotive fabrication operations, including the production of aluminium roof rails and trim components.

Hydro’s aluminium extrusion plants in Chrzanów and Trzcianka were certified according to both ASI standards earlier this year.

“It is great to see our hard work lead to success also in Łódź. ASI certification is a step forward for us in our sustainability agenda, and it supports our customer demands for aluminium products that are sourced and produced responsibly,” says Łukasz Winiarek, who manages the plant.

Hydro employs about 480 people at the Łódź site, and more than 1,400 people in total in Poland.

The plants in Poland manufacture and market extruded aluminium profiles, and offer surface treatment and added-value operations to transform the profiles into solutions for customers in the transportation, automotive, general engineering, and building and construction industries.

Strong support for customers

“This is a milestone for our employees in Poland and for our organization as a whole. Doing business the right way is what our company is about,” says executive vice president Egil Hogna, who leads Hydro’s Extruded Solutions business area.

Extruded Solutions is the largest business area in Hydro with 22,000 employees in 40 countries. It delivers tailored aluminium components and solutions to all industries, from automotive and mass transportation to building and construction, electronics, offshore and maritime.

The business area serves more than 30,000 customers across the world.
