Hydro’s latest ASI-certified site is located in Suzhou Industrial Park, near Shanghai, and employs around 350 people. The plant has enjoyed several expansion projects since opening in 2004, and just broke ground on a new NOK 390 million investment.

The new extrusion press will serve China’s automotive and electric vehicle market, and create about 75 new jobs when it starts operation in mid-2023.

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s (ASI) Performance Standard recognizes the responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The certification in Suzhou covers the plant’s extrusion operations as well as its die shop, anodizing activities and value-add processes.

“This is really something special for the team. It reflects collaboration between our departments and an outstanding group of dedicated and customer-minded employees – with an emphasis on outstanding,” says Jeff Lehman, VP Hydro Precision Tubing Asia.

The Suzhou plant manufactures extruded aluminium tubes and profiles for local and global customers in the automotive, HVACR, marine and industrial industries. Its products are used in HVAC systems and other heating/cooling solutions, which includes drawn precision tube, inner-grooved tube, multi-port extrusions and extruded profiles.

“I’m thrilled for our employees and happy for our customers. Doing business the right way is what our company is all about,” says Paul Warton, EVP responsible for Hydro Extrusions.

Hydro Extrusions is the largest business area in Hydro, delivering tailored aluminium components and solutions to all industries, from automotive and mass transportation to building and construction, electronics, offshore and maritime. The business area serves more than 30,000 customers globally.
